Railroad Caffe | Parques das Naçoes

Railroad Caffe is located in Parque das Nações neighborhood. It’s an area we highly recommend for families. There are many attractions to be found here:

  • The cable car that runs along the river,
  • The world famous Oceanarium, with thousands of species,
  • the Pavilhão do Conhecimento e Ciência Viva / Pavilion of Knowledge and Living Science. An interactive museum currently dedicated to dinosaurs. (Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s in Portuguese and English, children are incredibly adaptable).
  • The Linx de Bordalo II, made entirely of rubbish.
  • and the magnificent quayside promenade overlooking the Vasco da Gama Bridge, with its many green spaces and playgrounds.

But back to the subject, in this neighbourhood you’ll find a very nice place where your drinks (€2), pancakes (€3), toast (€5) and hamburgers (€6) are served on a little train. We have to admit that even us adults really enjoy it.

Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 21pm
Passeio Adamastor, 1990-193 Lisboa

World of Heroes

Who hasn’t dreamed of seeing their Marvel superheroes life-size in an immersive world?
The World of Heroes has done just that!
In this huge space, you’ll find representations of Spider-Man, the Hulk, Iron Man and Black Panther in a futuristic setting. There is also a shop with a whole collection of Marvel miniatures that will delight connoisseurs and collectors alike.

On the menu you will find everything the kids love: galatic najos to share (from €8 to €23), burgers (from €11 to €15), pizzas (from €10 to €14), salads (from €14 to €16) and meats (from €16 to €17). And, of course, there’s a generous selection of ice creams and desserts. Decoration is included on the price.

PSI Vegetarian Restaurant | Arroios

Family restaurants for kids

Restaurants famille enfants

Here’s another healthy alternative for the whole family. A very good and original vegetarian restaurant with an Asian flavour, generous dishes (around €11/14), located near Santo António dos Capuchos Hospital.
The big plus, apart from the children’s chairs and toys, is the green terrace overlooking the Jardim Maria de Lourdes Pintassilgo and its park. This allows parents to have some time for themselves while their children run free.

Open Monday to Saturday, 12.30 to 15.30 / 19.30 to 22.30.
Alameda Santo António dos Capuchos, 1150-314 Lisbon

A merendeira The typical Portuguese fast food | santos

Où manger après minuit à Lisbonne - Restaurants famille enfants

If your children have a craving for fast food, take them to Merendeira, not far from Cais de Sodré on Avenida 24 de Julho, and let them discover some Portuguese specialities prepared in front of your eyes.

This Portuguese snack bar is open every day and offers menus starting from €6.30:

  • Caldo verde (cabbage soup), pão com chouriço (bread with chorizo), drink, rice pudding and coffee.
Fresh, simple and hearty. Much healthier than any fast food restaurant and a great way to teach children about our culture.

A real institution for the Portuguese, it sells thousands of Pão com Chouriço baked in a wood-fired oven every day.

Open every day from 11am to 7am
Cost between €3 and €8 | No credit cards / Cash only
Av. 24 de Julho 54, 1200-657 Lisboa

A.P.F. Cafe & Restaurant | Santos

In the hill above Santos you’ll find this place created by parents for parents. When Gregory and Christelle, both French, had their second child, they realised how difficult it could be to maintain an outdoor social life with young children.

That’s how they came up with the idea of creating this place, which not only offers excellent value brunches, but also a Kids Camp with activities for children aged 0-10, under the supervision of a babysitter! Prices range from €5 per day to €15 per hour, depending on the day and special offers.
It’s also possible to organise birthday parties for your little ones!

How about an ice cream? Nannarella | Sao Bento

Glace Famille Lisbonne

For us, the mere mention of ice cream takes us back to our childhood.
Lisbon has some very good artisanal ice cream shops, but if we had to recommend just one, it would be Gelateria Nannarella in São Bento district, near the National Assembly, where you can sit at the garden enjoying your icecream.
It’s not unusual for there to be a long queue on hot days and during the afternoon. But don’t worry, the staff are very efficient.
We can’t recommend a particular flavour as the menu is varied and changes regularly, but don’t miss the delicious homemade whipped cream.

Open every day from 12 to 22
From 2€50
R. Nova da Piedade 64A, 1200-299 Lisboa

Epilogue

Of course, this list is not exhaustive and there are many other places that are child-friendly, with special menus and attention for children.
